International Science Affiliations (ISA) Survey

1. Overview

This survey was conducted in June to August 2016 and is part of an international collaborative research project into the future of academic research currently conducted in Germany, Japan and the UK. The aim of the survey is to investigate career arrangements and research practises of academic researchers.

The questionnaire contained three sets of questions:

  1. Questions regarding academics' employment situation and personal questions
  2. Questions regarding academics' institutional affiliation
  3. Questions regarding academics' research collaboration

The research is supported by the German Science Foundation (DFG - HO5390/1-1) and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS - PE15033). The research further benefitted from a University of Düsseldorf Strategic Research Fund (SFF-F2014/626-15) and a University of Nottingham International Collaboration Fund. The research is supported by Roman Fudickar and Tanja Pfaffel (both at TUM School of Management, Technische Universität München).

Questions in section 3 (research collaboration) of the questionnaire were developed in collaboration with Miho Funamori (National Institute of Informatics, Japan) and Masaru Yarime (City University of Hong Kong).
